The Bible Way To Heaven

Unless you had clear directions and a map, you were destined to get lost.

God has given us clear directions to get to Heaven. You and I have never been there before—it would be wise to listen to God’s directions instead of making up our own. Proverbs 14:12 tells us: “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

Doing good works, church membership, trying to keep the commandments, or baptism might “seem” the right way to Heaven, but God says that our ways will produce failure.
Ephesians 2:8-9: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Galatians 3:21: “…for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.”
Titus 3:5: “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us…”
Galatians 2:16: “Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.”

God’s Son, Jesus Christ, clearly states: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)

There is ONE WAY to Heaven: Jesus Christ!

How can you get eternal life through Jesus Christ?

1. First, accept that you are a sinner and separated from God.
Romans 3:10 reads: “…There is none righteous, no, not one.”
In Romans 3:23, the Bible says: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
And again in Isaiah 59:2: “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”
Romans 2:5: “But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;”

Our sins have separated us from God. Think about it. What need have you to be “found” except you first realize you are “lost”? What need have we to be “saved” unless we first realize we are under God’s judgment and wrath because of our wicked rebellion? You must first know and accept that you are a sinner, that you’re lost, and in need of Him to save you. The writer of “Amazing Grace” said it this way “Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now I’m found; was blind, but now I see…”

2. Second, acknowledge that the penalty of your sin is death and hell.
Romans 6:23a reads: “For the wages of sin is death…” A wage is something you earn.  Death is the reward of those that sin.
Revelation 20:14, 15 continues: “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
Revelation 21:8″ But the fearful, and unbelieving… and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

According to God’s Word, we are all sinners, and our sin must be paid for. God is a just, and like a good judge He will give us what we deserve. His judgement is so thorough and just, that all liars will have eternal hellfire as the reward and punishment for their sin. Have you ever told a lie? This is the horrifying bad news that EVERY one of us faces, but it’s necessary so that you can really appreciate and understand the good news.

3. Third, believe that Christ died for your sins and then rose again.
Romans 5:8 reads: “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
1 Peter 3:18: “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened (made alive) by the Spirit:”

2 Corinthians 5:21: “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
I Corinthians 15:1-4: “…I declare unto you the gospel (good news)…that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”

The best news that anyone could ever tell you is that God loves you and Jesus died for you. All your sins were laid on Him, even though He was innocent and sinless. He voluntarily bore our sin upon Himself, and paid our sin debt in full! He then overcame the grave by raising back to life, showing that He can give eternal life, and that not even death can stop Him!

The sinless Son of God was punished of God in your place, as your substitute. You broke God’s law, but Jesus paid the fine. He did this not after man straightened out his life and got his act together, but while we were yet in our sin, in the middle of our rebellion when we were filthy and treated God as an enemy. Jesus suffered and exhausted the full wrath of God that you and I rightfully deserved, and He did it because of His great love He has for you.

4. Fourth, repent and trust Christ alone as your personal Savior, and He will give you eternal life
John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:18-19: “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”
Acts 20:21 reads: “Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Repent means “to turn” or “to change your mind.” God invites you to change your mind about how to get to heaven, and to trust in Him with all of your heart, mind and strength. This is what faith is. It’s believing what God has said and done, doubting nothing. What is keeping you from doing that? What are you trusting in that is more important than what God personally did for you on the cross?

You can believe that God loves you. You can believe that you are a sinner and that sin must be paid for; but if you are not willing to trust God by receiving Jesus as your personal Savior and Lord, you will die without Christ, without life, and will suffer eternal death in hell. He is the only available Savior.

God promises in Romans 10:9, 13 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved…For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Let us review for a moment.
1. Do you accept that you are a sinner and separated from God?
2. Do you acknowledge that sin must be paid for, and that the penalty is death and hell?
3. Do you believe that Christ died for you, then rose from the dead three days later?
4. Have you repented and put your faith and trust in Christ alone as your personal Savior?

If you now understand God’s one and only way to Heaven, then do not pass up your opportunity to receive Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. “…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation…” II Corinthians 6:2b

In your own words, trust Christ right now today.

Everlasting life begins the moment you receive Christ as your personal Savior by faith. John 1:12: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” The Lord Jesus said, “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish…” (John 10:28)
